An inherited home, three siblings, three different ideas
Sell, rent or wait? How heirs can reach an agreement starting from the same figures.
The problem
Three siblings inherit their parents' flat in Olbia. One wants to sell straight away, one wants to rent it out in summer, the third lives far away and does not reply. The home stays closed, costs keep running and relations start to fray.
Why it happens
In an inheritance everyone sees the home differently: memories, the need for cash, the hope of a higher price. Without objective data every discussion becomes personal.
How it is solved
- A written valuation, the same for everyone, based on actual sale prices in the area rather than asking prices.
- A comparison of the figures for each option: selling now, renting (with costs, taxes and management), waiting.
- A check that the succession is complete: declaration filed and registry transfers done. Without these steps the home cannot be sold.
- A single point of contact who keeps everyone informed in the same way, including whoever lives far away.
What you can do
Before deciding, put the same figures on the table for everyone. The decision often follows on its own.
